Punica granatum III

Pomegranates on a branch III

21cm x 29.7cm

2018

Watercolour on Fabriano Artistico Extra White 600gsm

Private collection of HM King Charles III

The pomegranate is so redolent of the Middle East, where the long summers burnish the fruit to a deep fuchsia-red. Known as ‘rumman’ in Arabic, the pomegranate is important to Middle Eastern cuisine and cultural history.

This specimen was painted as part of a pair, a gift commissioned for the then HRH The Prince of Wales.
