This bright little florist's flower is a genus of plants in the Asteraceae family.

It was named in honour of German botanist and medical doctor Traugott Gerber, who travelled extensively in Russia and was a friend of the great scientist and plant taxonomist Carl Linnaeus.

The deep red can be difficult for the artist to replicate without many washes of colour.
